John W. Hill (1812 – 1879) son of an engraver in London emigrated to the U.S. in 1819. At age 21 he was an associate member of the National Academy of Design. His accurate depictions of wildlife, including birds, illustrated James Ellsworth De Kay’s, “Zoology of New York”. He is also known for his paintings and engravings of landscapes, mostly the mountains of New England and New York.
