The Story

Pine Orchard Prints derives its name from Pine Orchard, the site of the Catskill Mountain House. This renowned hotel, built in 1823, was perched on the escarpment of New York’s northern Catskill Mountains with sweeping views of the Hudson Valley below. The dramatic wild scenery of lakes and waterfalls surrounding the Mountain House attracted prominent artists, throughout the nineteenth century. Their sketches and paintings found a wider audience by means of engravings.

The Two Lakes and The Mountain House on the Catskills – William Bartlett
The Pine Orchard site as depicted in 1838 by William Bartlett in “The Two Lakes and The Mountain House on the Catskills”.

It was these attractive prints which initially stimulated my interest in forming a small collection during summers spent on the Catskill Mountain Top. As my collection grew and diversified I sold prints, for over a decade, in the Hudson Valley. Now, I am making available a selection of authentic prints at competitive prices, only sold online. All my prints and maps are guaranteed to be antique – over one hundred years old.

Information and Policies

Authenticity

All my prints and maps are guaranteed to be original and antique (over 100 years old). No reproductions!

Condition

All items are in overall good or better condition. When buying an antique print, however, keep in mind that the print is on paper which has survived for well over one hundred years, so there may be conditions which reflect age. Often, a print can appear lightly brown (age toning). Where toning is light and evenly distributed, this is not normally a problem. Also, conditions which are confined to the outer margins may “mat out”, so that the print’s image and inner margin are not affected. Significant imperfections  repaired tears, stains, or foxing (rust colored spots)  are noted in the print description.

Matting

All of my prints and some of the maps are matted (mounted), as noted in the item’s description, in acid free conservation mats. Generally, the outside measurement of the mat is cut to fit a readily available standard size frame, thus making it possible for the customer to avoid the added expense of a custom-made frame.
